iTunes does not recognize my iPhone

I recently up graded my phone to 3.0. A few days ago, iTunes on my MacBook stopped recognizing my iPhone. All I get is the whirling globe. I installed the two most recent versions of iTunes, 9 then 9.1, turned the phone of and on, restarted my computer, tried a different USB port - nothing.
However, I am able to synch the iCal and address book through SynchNow on my MacBook, so i am not at a total loss. Which also means the cord is OK.

By the way, my phone is unlocked, on T-Mobile, so I cannot upgrade the firmware.

Have you tried connecting to another Itunes on another computer? you don't need to sync just to connect to see if it will see your phone. This should tell you if the problem is with Itunes.
