Default iPod Touch 2g Blank Screen Fix

My Ipod touch 2g has gone blank. We have tried to reboot it by holding down the home button and the sleep/off button but this has not worked. It is not responding to charging either and itunes does not notice it when you plug it into the computer.
Have you got any suggestions we could try? I don't want to jailbreak it using the Redsnow apps. I was wondering if there is anything I could try before I open it up.

    Thank you.

Have you tried putting the iPod touch into DFU mode then restoring it?

    That is:

    - Hold Power and Home for 10 seconds.
    - Release Power, continue to hold Home for another 10 seconds.

iTunes SHOULD pick up your iPod touch and you should be able to restore.

Dfu mode will work, most of the time.

    Do you think it works?
