Is a Ipod classic 4th generation, 20 GB worth purchasing for my 13 yr old?

She has a anroid smart phone for texting too

Welcome to iMore. You can not text on an iPod Classic. They are not designed for that and are just a portable media player. It would need to be an iPod Touch for her to be able to text.

To add to the great advice firedept10 already gave you; the ipod touch can only send texts over iMessage via WiFi, so those who she sends texts to must also have iMessage (which is only on Apple devices). If she want's just pure texting to and from anyone regardless of device (without iMessage), then the Android smartphone she has will do fine. An Apple smartphone, however, is the best of both worlds. Great for music and for texting.

Yes, the iPod Classic is worth purchasing for a 13 yr old for music and video purposes, but not for texting. If the device works and is in excellent condition, I'd buy it for $50 just to have and store all of my music on, but that's Just Me, D...
