Why won't my 5th gen ipod work now?

Two days ago I woke up and used my 5th gen ipod normally for a good hour. After coming back to it maybe 5 minutes after locking it, it refused to do anything. It won't turn on or turn off. The screen even remained black after I plugged it in to charge. This happened to my youngest brother a couple months after getting his as well only his randomly worked the next day. I really hope this is able to be fixed because I've done nothing to the device to cause this and the fact I've seen it happen before is rapidly making me lose faith in idevices.
