Can I leave my iPod plugged into the USB 1 on my Ford Focus permanently?

I would like to leave my iPod plugged into the USB 1 jack on my 2015 Ford Focus so that it SYNCs with my sound system, AND so that it stays charged. I just want to make sure that this will not drain my car battery.

I think there is always power running to SYNC. As I recall correctly, it occasionally pings for GPS and such.
