Saw an 2nd hand 8gb ipod touch 3rd gen today. Would it be still good? Thought of purchasing one for whenever i go gym since i don't own a shuffle or nano. But i do own an ipod touch 5 and iphone 5. The price is rm80. And a new 2gb ipod shuffle here costs rm169 in the apple store. So, what do you guys think? :)

Apple never released the 3rd gen iPod touch in 8 GB, only 32 & 64 GB. The 8 GB was a 2nd gen iPod touch with the iOS 3.1.2 installed (at the time the 3rd gen was released) that's all. The 2nd gen iPod touch supports upto iOS 4.2.1 and the 3rd gen supports upto iOS 5.1.1 I just want to clarify that. But if all your using the 2nd gen iPod touch for is music it would be still ok for that so it's your call.

Thanks! It's a 3rd gen yeah. I recognized it. But the seller told me it was only 8GB. Guess he was mistaken. So yeah. Thanks anyways :)

Well, I still have my 3rd Gen Touch bought in 2010 (i guesstimate)

Except the battery, everything is working sharp. Its on 5.1.1 and I get kinda sad not receiving newer apps designed for 6+
seeing iOS8 at WWDC, I'm even more saddened.

Summing it up, BEWARE of the battery, its probably charged 1000's times in the last 4 years and ran out of juice

I got mine in January 2010 and my battery is still fine after more than 1000 charges, battery life is not the same as it was as new but still good enough for me. It's on iOS 5.1.1 jailbroken. I still can get 20-24 hours of music out of it. Web browsing on the other hand I can only get 2 hours though. And I haven't replaced the battery in it.

I would just keep using the iPod Touch 5. The third gen is really old, and if you already have the latest model, I would just stay with it :)

I still use my 3rd gen iPod touch for music cause my songs sound better on it than on my iPhone 5S

Really? That's kind of odd, but cool at the same time :)

Analog (3rd gen) vs digital (5S) output makes a huge difference. Plus I think my 3rd gen has a higher power output for the headphone jack than my 5S.
