Do Automatic App updates ever work?

I have my apps set to update themselves, even on cellular, but even so they never actually update themselves. I went into the App Store and all of the sudden it showed I had 12 apps that needed to be updated. Is there a fix for this?

They used to work for me, but it's been a while since I've enabled that setting.

They work on my old iPhone 5 and on my Wife's 5c. I do them manually on my 6s Plus.

If I set them to auto update, they will. I just prefer going to the App Store and doing it. I like to read about the updates. And write reviews. LOL

I'm not a fan of every app updating automatically, because I may not like or want the latest version at that time.

Same.
Also, if I'm not connected to WiFi, I would rather not have it update. Updates are usually small but still.

Idk maybe I'm a little OCD. I like to have the latest version of apps cuz I think the app will get buggy.

I understand where you are coming from. I just hate updates happening on their own in the background without my consent.

They do work. I used to have my apps be automatically updated. Nowadays I prefer to do it manually.

I prefer to keep my iPhone 6S on manual updates, but I set it to automatically on my wife's 5S. I did notice sometimes her iPhone update apps a little later than mine, but it works.
