Is there a specific reason why you don't charge your iPhone overnight?

Just curious about this. I see a lot of people don't charge their phone every night, are you saving money on electricity or just don't want to charge it. For me every night when I go to bed I charge my phone. I don't want to get caught with a dead phone if something happens and indeed to run out. I also charge it at my desk if I'm not running around.

Again just curious what every one else does our why they don't charge every night. Thanks

Re: Charging your iPhone

I have an iPhone 6 Plus and only charge it about every three days, unless there is a specific reason (e.g., going on a long trip). Since I keep the radios off unless needed, my battery lasts forever.

However, I also have charging cables and a battery pack in my bag at all times, so I don't usually worry too much.

I've been charging ever other day with heavy use.
I try to get my battery to go as low as possible before charging, I was once told it helps strengthen battery life.

Typically speaking, I charge my phone overnight, but not always. I "usually" have between 35 and 50% battery capacity left when I go to bed, depending on the day's usage.

Yeah I charge every night and during the day at the office if I dip below about 60%. My office has horrible cellular reception so that tends to drain my battery quickly on workdays.

I'm in this situation EVERY day. I am so jealous when I see everyone's amazing battery life and on mobile data I only get six hours of screen time. Gotta love Australia xd. Though it's MUCH better than the 5c which would only last me 3-4 hours of on screen time

If you read up on LI Batteries it's actually the worst thing to do to them. They say it shortens their life span.

They say don't go below 20%. And constantly charging a Li battery won't hurt it. If I'm at my desk I charge. Been doing this since I first got my iPhone 4. Never had a battery issue.

Re: Charging your iPhone

My 6 is usually at about 30% at lunch so I charge it and 10-20% at night so I charge again. So yes. Every night or I won't get very far into the next day.

Re: Charging your iPhone

I don't charge my 5S every night because I just don't need to. I'm not a heavy user, so basically starting off at 100% in the morning leaves me at about 65-75% at bedtime. So I'll just wait it out and charge the following night when it gets down closer to 35% or so when I'm going to bed.

Now, if I know I'll be up out and early the following morning even though my battery is on 75% at bedtime, I will charge it so I'm at a full 100% the next morning and take one of my Mophie's in my handbag just in case I need it for a boost.

For the most part, I charge every other day.

Re: Charging your iPhone

I charge my old 5 two or three times a day. I usually have it charged to 100% when I go to bed. Occasionally I put it on at bedtime. No rhyme or reason, just a habit I got into.

Re: Charging your iPhone

I'll charge my 5s at the end of the day if it has less than 90% left. I spend a portion of my work day on the road, so it's often plugged in to the car's USB port so that I can listen to music and podcasts, and also give the phone some juice. It rarely falls below 40% unless it's a really busy day at work.

I run a night stand clock/alarm clock app (Red Clock) on my iPhone 6 Plus every night. My routine is:

Run the iCloud backup (manually)
Plug my iPhone in to the charger
Launch Red Clock

Been doing that with my iPhone since the iPhone 5 days.

After I had the 6 Plus for a month or so, I went almost 3 days on my phone without charging it - just to see how long I could make it last. The test was somewhat "forced" in that I turned off notifications, bluetooth and LTE, and "nursed" it along. These days, I run it with all of the radios "on" and just use it as I need/want. I still get a full day's use and typically am sitting around 25-35% battery remaining.

Like you, Zerog, I don't want to get caught without sufficient battery. Charging the iPhone 6 Plus every night does, in fact, guarantee that.

iPhone 5 days? You make me seem so out of date! September here I come though. :)

Re: Charging your iPhone

I charge mine overnight every night. Usually I don't go below 20%. It seems like the battery life is a little shorter than it was when I originally got the phone.

Re: Charging your iPhone

I charge it whenever I feel it's necessary to keep it alive depending on my day. Sometimes if I'm near full battery at night I won't charge it until morning. I usually carry a charger with me at all times as well.

I try to get my battery to go as low as possible before charging, I was once told it helps strengthen battery life.

From what I know/remember, lithium ion batteries do not maintain a 'memory' when charged or discharged. I've never had a battery problem with my phone and I always will run the battery until I get home at night to charge it. I rarely have run into the situation where my phone dies because the battery runs out, but letting it go below 20% will not hurt the battery.

To answer the question of this thread though, I charge my phone every night. I have a Dock+ iPhone dock and it charges my phone while it props it up so I can use it as an alarm clock as well.
