Looking for a better Music app

I was listening to an album at work yesterday and thought "man, this album really takes me back to the first time I heard it." And then I was trying to remember what else I was listening to that came out on or around that same date. The album release dates are recorded in the album information so I started looking for a way to do that and I couldn't and I thought that's a really bad oversight in the Music app.

I went online and looked for best music apps other than the native app and didn't really find what I was looking for.

Suggestions? I am willing to pay a small amount ($2) so free is not mandatory.

Try the Genius feature of the music app... it's free.

that really doesn't do the trick tho. Genius isn't confined to time or genre - it has its own algorithm and doesn't ask how I want to constrain that algorithm.

What I want is the ability to pivot mid playlist to
1) the rest of the album of the song I am listening to or
2) more songs by that artist (chronologically by album) or
3) more songs from that time or
4) more songs from that genre (that are similar)

genius does an okay job with #4 but I find it's choices are a bit too wide. The others it doesn't cover at all.
