Curious which has more appeal from apple users regarding the two new upcoming cross platform messengers, even if you don't plan on using them, which is more appealing.
Would you rather BBM or Hangout?

Hangout personally. But I'll won't use it until it supports SMS.

iMessage is close to perfect if it was on multiple platforms because apple products.

My wife won't use anything other than android, she refuses to learn anything else and hates the smaller screen.

Besides that iMessage is as good as it gets right now.

Handouts has good potential but lack of SMS support is going to hurt it for a lot of people.

BBM. That's going to be the #1 cross-platform messaging utility. Ill still use iMessage 99% of the time, since all my friends and family are on iOS.

If this was two years ago, I would have had no problem saying BBM hands down. The problem now is I think I know all of one person who still has a BlackBerry, and quite a few friends probably don't even know and/or remember what BBM is. Obviously this is still the exception to the rule as BBM is still immensely popular, but for me it would probably come down to Hangouts. Pretty much everyone I know has either an iPhone or an Android device.

I would say Hangout, most of my family and friends use that. Some have iMessage as well but there is no desktop version for when I'm at work or anything like that unless I bring my MacBook

I just downloaded hangout this morning. Only benefit over iMessage is that I have Google+ friends whose phone # I don't have

If it has all of the features that are currently on BB10, I'd prefer BBM. However, that will be highly dependent on a decent adoption rate. I wouldn't keep it to only talk to a couple of people.

    I would personally prefer BBM.

How popular it gets really depends on how they implement BBM for cross-platform use...if it's not seamless and easy to use, people will probably stay with iMessage. BBM needed folks to have a device-specific PIN and you would invite people either using that or by their email. I think right before I transitioned over to iOS, they started being able to text or email people invites as well. So it would be interesting to see how it would work now with users on android and ios.

Awesome, not the question though, the question is BBM or Hangout, if neither, refrain from posting in the thread asking for one of those two answers, or just assume iMessage is not an option. Kthksbye.

For me, BBM. Simply because I'm trying to cut out as much Google usage as possible. It's bad enough I'm more than fairly certain my government watches everything I do, I don't want or need Google doing it as well. Google tracks everything you do on Chrome, what you search through them, what you do with Android devices, etc. And I'm supposed to say, here's my personal conversations with people? Nope, not happening.

Granted you are correct. So to amend my short uninformative answer:

Personally, I'd go with Hangouts as I know no one on BBM. Also, BBM is limited to mobile devices e.g., no desktop product for BBM (that I know of).

Professionally, I implement, manage and support mobile solutions for various clients. All have left BB over the past few years as it has been outpaced by iOS and Android. In our talks, none of these companies see moving back to BB in the near future. My solution for group chats within enterprise is to set up an open source XXMP server (Openfire) using Active Directory authentication. Both Google and BB are late to see the potential of their collaborative IM service on iOS and in the enterprise. I do see Hangouts being a potential solution for businesses using Google for Business. As I mentioned earlier, the desktop/web based google IM option will be more appealing than BBM.

So in the end, the question truly isn't which would you use, but rather why, when there are other, more established products. BBM has a huge mountain to climb.

I think apple should not get any and just stick to iMessage.. Why have cross platform chats or whatever isn't that txting is for? Apple should have their iMessage n blackberry have their bbm.. Android iunno but if ppl wanna message each other and have different devices why don't ppl just txt.. Just making things more complicating for nothing

I completely disagree. Allowing these third party messengers to become available on iOS gives more options to the people that want them. For those who don't, they don't have to download them and everyone will be happy.
