You'll probably find it a little slow for gaming and might want to think of at least the 4S or 5.

I wouldn't recommend it. It can get laggy when pushed at all with games.

If you're getting a new idevice, then obviously go for one of the newer versions. I do use my iphone 4 for games and a lot of the games i play on it is fine. However, going forward, a lot of the newer games - especially the big names/blockbuster hits - will get more graphic and processor intensive. I think the iphone 4 does not have much longer to go before if gets dropped from support!
