GarageBand for iPad = need for GarageBand '11?

I installed GarageBand for iPad last week but still have the 2009 version on my Mac. It seems that Apple releases new versions of iLife every 2 years, so seeing as how 2011 came in 2010, are we due for another version this year? If so, does it make sense to wait for a new version? Or can we assume that - with the release of the iOS version - we'll have GarageBand '11 for awhile? I want to ensure compatibility between my iPad and my Mac, but I also don't want to buy '11 only to have '13 come out next week.
