Google Talk client?

I used to have a Palm Pre, and on that phone, my IMs came through as if they were a text message. WithOUT jailbreaking, is there a way to do this on iPhone?

I've seen I can use GTalk by going to Google via Safari, and there's an option to use it, but is there a way to just use it as messaging?

If you'll check the apps forum, where this thread is now located, you'll see many recommendations for IM clients, including some that do Google Talk (alone and with others).
