Default iOS 5 & Google Maps

Do you guys think the new Google Maps with vectoring and 3D maps is coming to the iOS 5 maps app? Haven't read anything about it. Bummer.

Yeah, with the map app being an Apple app, I didn't think it would happen, but I was really hoping. Those improvements really sped up the app and map down load. I really wish they would let Google do a map app. Might not be as polished and pretty, but it would be a lot faster.

I hope they will allow google to bring their android app to iOS. On the iPad the 3D maps would really excell. The google iPad app looks real nice. If google builds the app that means we can get more timely updates. Same with the YouTube app. Let google bulid it. On honeycomb you can swipe the videos in a carsoel.

It's not about Apple bringing it to iOS. Google has to want to update the maps app and coming from webOS I can assure you Android will keep it's best versions of it's apps for themselves.

From what I understood Apple has access to the maps, they just won't update them.

Apple builds the maps app. The only thing from google is the map content that all map services get from USGS so if Apple really wants to, they will eirther rewrite their maps app or have google bulid one for iOS

From what I could see after a quick glance at the iOS 5 map app, there aren't any updates at all. Sad but true

There is the addition of alternate routes and you can specify drive, transit or walk before getting a route instead of having to switch after. Those are the only real differences.

That blows. I was sure that at least vectoring would make it over.

And the 3D maps as that uses multi touch gestures. Two fingers down to get the birds eye view.

The maps belong to Google as does the API that Apple has licensed from Google. Maps on the iPhone is very much a older version of Google Maps with apple-fied UI. We need vector rendering in maps badly.
