How does Kik Messenger make money????

Does anyone know how kik messenger makes money? Also, how much does it cost to hire a developer to develop an app such as this??

If I were to guess, it would be through Advertisers like most "Free" apps. Justa guess though.

1. Ads help cover the cost
2. The creator never quit his day job. He still does his main work, but does this out of his own free time

It would be nice if RIM would drop the law suite and allow us to msg people on BB again. i just switched over from BB of 6yrs to iphone4. for now I'm using WhatsApp to do the same thing. think its a $1 download for both units.
