Can almost guarantee that one does not exist. For this to happen, the phone would have to have an internal thermometer, which it does not.

What does the iPhone use to detect overheating. Can it be used as an internal thermometer?

Even if there was I wouldn't trust it.

If the phone is too hot to hold then its too hot period.Place it in a cool place for a good m10-15 minutes.

There is an external thermometer available on iCelsius.com - Temperature Sensor for the iPhone / iPad / iPod touch.

I've left the ipad and my Touch 4thG in the sun before and they have warned me that they were too hot.
