App Rankings System?

Hi Guys,

I've recently released my first app for general sale, and i'm not trying to compete with the Top Developers, just want a general concensus of my developing skills.
My App "iPocket Brent" has been for sale for 3 days now, and although it's moving up in the ranking, and getting a few reviews, it's sales are dropping.

How do the reviews and sales of Apps affect it's position in the app rankings?

From what I understand, the ranking is purely based off of # of sales per day..or even per hour. So if you can generate a great # of sales in a quick amount of time, you will jump up the ranks
