email / sms icon indicator

I'm looking for an app that will show an email or sms icon indicator on the top status bar where the battery info and broadband info (E, 3G or Wifi) shows.

If I get an email I'd like to it show on the lock screen instead of having to unlock the screen every time to check.

Jailbreak and install status notifier, and/or intelliscreen or one of the other lock screen mods.
