Faces Wild, by Sam Williams
$0.99, Four stars
Pros:
Cons
How many people remember those wooden backdrops that you see at fairs and amusement parks. The one where you can stick your head through a hole, and someone takes a picture of your head with another background? Remember those? Well, that is basically "faces wild".
WIth faces wild, you can take an existing photo you have in your camera roll (or take a new photo with the camera). You then choose a scene to put the face in, broken down into 11 categories such as "movies", "famous people", "costumes", and "art". Each category has between 5 and 20 scenes to choose, so you have a good selection to put the face in.
When you have chosen the scene and the face, you then see the scene picture superimposed over the face picture - it is slightly transparent. You can move the face picture around to line up the face with the hole in the scene. You can shrink, expand, and flip the face picture as needed. I wish there was more assistance in this part of the picture - maybe something to identify where the eyes/nose are supposed to be, or something where you can "circle" the face and it will automatically try to line it up. Lining up the face with the "hole" is one of the more important tasks, and sometimes you can do it easilly, sometimes you can't.
Once you have the face lined up, you can save the image to your camera roll, to do what ever you want with it. My daughter just had fun looking at the fun scenes I put her face into.
The apps is desgined relatively well, and aside from the few complaints when lining up the faces, it all moves very smoothly. With over 100 total scenes, there are a lot to choose from, and they keep adding more scenes all the time.
All in all, this is a fun app and can create fun pictures to share and save. While there could be more guidance when lining up the faces, the process itself is very easy and straightforward - it just takes practice. At $.99, the app is well worth a shot. Four out of five stars.
Rating scale:
* = No redeeming qualities or features, probably not worth it even if it is free
** = Few redeeming qualities, or is simply isn't worth the price
*** = Some good features but also some clear flaws.
**** = A solid app, worth the money if interested, a few flaws or problems or slightly overpriced
***** = Top of the line app, no problems or drawbacks.
Price is factored into the ratings. Ratings are lowered if I feel the price of the app outweighs the benefits/enjoyment/features it provides. Likewise, an app that is a good value for the money will have a higher rating.
