My top 5 that are on my iPhone right now... I'd say:

Beejive IM - was not digging the $15.99 price tag but it really is worth the money.
Twitterriffic - free, works just as well as the paid version.
Spore - great game
MLB at Bat - great for baseball fans, especially now in the post season.
Now Playing - best app for movie trailers and theatre times.

These are my favorite apps at the moment...

would you say that twitterific is the best twitter app because im not sure

Considering he wrote that 2 years ago, I don't know if I'd call that a recent opinion. Looks like he's been using the official Twitter app when on his iPhone or iPad according to his twitter feed.

My favourite iPhone apps

- Dragan Diction - "speak" your words and copy/paste the text for a text, email, etc. 99.999% accuracy, amazing

- Slacker radio - great music app to stream customized stations

- Drop Box - big fan of Drop Box, so easy to sync files " in the cloud"

- Instapaper - save web pages and read when you're offline...a total lifesaver while travelling and no 3G/wifi connection

- Pulse News - amazing beautiful gorgeous RSS reader - I use this daily
