I didnt see a better forum to put this in, so here goes...

I was wondering what the best software is for converting DVD's etc... to an iphone compatible video format. I know of a few (Transfer my DVD, Roxio Crunch, etc...), but haven ever used any. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Check out YouTube. I tried handbrake but it takes over 10hrs to rip a movie, unless I am doing something wrong

10 hours, wow... thats very wrong... did it ESTIMATE 10 hrs, or actually take 10 hrs?

also handbrake normally uses 100% of the CPU cycles. so, i normally encode at night when im sleeping and not using the computer.

I'm new to iPhone, but not new to DVDrips. Here is what I've been using for years now... successfully I might add.

The best (and cheapest) program is to use SlySoft's AnyDVD. Pay the $30... you receive updates for life. They come out with new releases several times a month. So, it's best to just pay the $30 and not have to worry. This is take away the copyright protection on 99/9% of the DVD's out there. If you run into one or two that won't rip properly, you can research a workaround or wait another week or so for the next update.

For the file conversion from DVD to a usable iPhone/iPod file, use Handbrake. It's FREE and it's really easy to use. Be sure to chec out their mini tutorial on their site to help you along the first time.

That's pretty much it... hope that helps!

Check out software from Cucusoft, it works flawlessly. It's not free, but it's worth the money.

Mine stopped working (some sort of key exchange error) and I have been unable to get a response from their support department after numerous emails. Not sure they are worth the money.

A 2nd for Handbrake

I'm also a Mac user, but if the PC equivalent of Handbrake is as good as the Mac version, then I can't say enough good things about it. It usually takes me about an hour to rip a DVD on my MacBook Pro, and it's FREE. Also, Handbrake is good for me because it's practically dummy-proof :p

I use a pc and have been using Xilisoft's DVD ripper for my iPhone 3G and it has worked perfectly also use the plain video converter and got a whole season of Scrubs on my phone. You can find the torrent if you dont want to shell out the $30.

DVDFab Decrypter has a free version. It can rip any DVD. It's supposed to be able to convert to iPhone format, but it didn't work. I then used Handbrake to encode. Works like a champ.

Good luck

handbrake is great. I use the command line version of handbrake along with dvdfab to do the actual ripping. Dvdfab is free if you use the basic options.

I use DVD fab platinum 4 from a torrent I got with a keygen it will rip a movie and convert it in one foul swoop (and the voices will stay in sync all the way to the end of the movie) but I have found the best way is to rip several full discs to a folder and convert them all at once since a movie takes about 1 1/2 hours to convert but ripping a disc only takes 20 minutes example to rip and convert 6 movies I only need to pay attention for 2hours and convert overnight

Handbrake has always been super quick and easy for me. I've dumped almost all my DVDs onto an Apple TV via Drobo now, and it's really amazing to just be able to cue something up and watch without disc flipping (or scratching!)

MacTheRipper can help with tricky discs sometimes as well.

(And thanks to Bad Ash for throwing the front page bump at this thread!)
