My music library is on my old mac mini, from 2007, running Snow Leopard, which syncs fine with my iPod (Classic, 2007). My iPhone 7 is my first iPhone and I'd like to put my music/movies on it, but when I plug it into my mac, it won't even show up under Devices. Is this expected? Is there a way to get my old mac to see my new iPhone?

I checked updates both for the OS and iTunes.
First off, if the computer doesn't seem to recognize that a device is plugged into the USB, I don't think that it is a problem with iTunes (or, if there is an iTunes problem, there is another problem that needs to be addressed first).
    OS: 10.6.8
    iTunes: 11.4 (18)
