Does the iPhone 7 really only have 2gb of ram?

The 1 GB of ram difference wont be noticeable. The higher screen size and the way apple has done screen drawing in iOS is probably the main reasoning coupled with a 1080p screen.

IMO 2GB RAM works well for the 4.7 size and was a HUGE upgrade from 1GB a while back. I like that the Plus now has 3GB but for now it is not necessary in the 4.7. The best litmus test is to load several tabs in Safari and then start switching between them -- it is smooth and pages do not have to reload... I remember with the 6+ tabs were immediately dumped with the limited RAM...

I'm pretty sure the extra gb of RAM on the plus is for the dual camera setup. Cameras and their apps use a lot of processing power.

Agree 1gb was painful. 2 gb is so much better. Would 3 gb have been nice? Yes, but it seems, for now, the 3gb is just to help the processing of the dual cameras.

Ding, we have a winner here! The dual camera's ability to instantly change between wide and close without lag or hiccups needs more RAM to ensure it runs that way.

Remember folks, just like our personal computers (the phone IS a computer ;) ) more memory does NOT make the device run faster. It only allows you to run more programs simultaneously without excessive calls to paging.
