    just got my 7plus the other day and for using imessage it is set to just using my phone number for sending and receiving. will this be ok i can still send imessages over wifi with just that option right? also will i get any extra carrier charges if i only have this setting selected? thanks for any help.

    Welcome to iMore! iMessage uses data so as long as you're good on data you'll be fine. It works over wifi as well.

    In addition: If you have blue bubbles in outgoing iMessage texts, it will count towards your data and not towards your conventional texts. Green bubbles are conventional texts and will be counted as such.

    Yes, having only your number in there means that you are only reachable on that number.
    If you were to add your email in there, people that have your email, but not your phone number, would also be able to send you texts.
    I have also added my email in iMessage so I can just give my email to people whom I don't want to have my phone number and still want to text with over iMessage.

    It's all up to you.

    Absolutely!
    It also applies to FaceTime, if you ever use it.
    Data only. So you might want to be careful using it on LTE if your plan doesn't have much data!

    This is true. For example, I have a friend who is deaf. She has an iPad and texts me using my email address on iMessage. It works great this way!
