So, you've just received your new iPhone 7/7 Plus, are you going to Restore New or from an iCloud Backup?

    Curious...

From a computer backup. First I will be cleaning up my current phone of a few things before backing up.

From back up.. I don't like the hassle setting up as "new." The time it takes to get everything set up again is just too much. That being said, if the restore (from iTunes / not iCloud for me) causes issue or flakiness, I will have to do it as new and start over.

I always have trouble when I restore from backup so now I set every device up as a new one and tweak my settings afterwards. Much less headaches for me this way.

I just dread the thought of re-creating all the folders, and re-configuring each app / email etc. Takes hours and hours. Why I prefer the restore. Fingers crossed.. it's always been good for me, except for way back with the 4S.

I always start fresh. There is often a reason why phones run sluggish so why bring that over to the new device? When I put the iOS 10 GM on my 6 Plus last week then did a factory reset and restore, it was sluggish as hell.

Factory reset and start fresh and it runs much smoother.

"Sluggish" varies person to person. Just because one person finds it "sluggish" doesn't mean others do. I don't see why a person wouldn't just restore a backup first. Give the phone a few days and see how it goes. And if it isn't to your liking, then go ahead and restore as new. You have nothing to lose by restoring a backup. And especially easier with an encrypted iTunes backup so you don't have to re-enter all your passwords.

Every phone gets set up as new every time without fail.

I quite enjoy the task of setting a brand new one up, to be honest.

Nice to know that the encrypted backups saves passwords, too.
The only downside is having to connect to a computer/iTunes...

I always restore from an encrypted iTunes backup, and I've never had any issues. I go through and delete apps I no longer use before making the backup. I always do the restore from an encrypted backup so I don't have to go through and renter passwords everywhere, and I hate to lose my text messages. I also think it's a giant pain in the @$$ to set everything up again and re-download apps, etc.

People talk about sluggish performance and not wanting to carry that over to a new device, but I've never noticed that. Not saying it doesn't exist, but just that I've not noticed it.
