Why doesn't my Iphone 6S play a sound when I receive a text message?

I didn't have the problem when I first got the 6S, I tried turning the phone off and then on again. It played the sound for the first message I received after turning it back on, but then quit again. It is quite frustrating because I never know when I get a message

I don't know, but you can check the usual suspects:

1. Volume buttons
2. Do Not Disturb feature
3. Mute Switch
4. Bluetooth connection
5. Sound & Alert settings

If all else fails, you can always reset all settings or restore your device and set it up as new.
