My iPhone 6s won't allow me to connect with iTunes, why?

My iphone 6s won't allow me to connect with itune

I just purchased iphone 6s and I wanted to add music in to it. However, it keeps telling me to download new version of itune and I did, like 3 times; but it didn't change anything.

Have you signed in the the iTunes & App Store on your iPhone?
Have you signed into iTunes on your computer?

Also, have rebooted your computer after you installed the updated iTunes software on the computer?
