Hangouts notification sound

Hi!

On my personnal device, Hangouts sounds like the 'Tri-Tone' notification.
However, on my business device, Hangouts sounds like.. well, Hangouts!

How do I make it sound like it should be, on my personnal device?

If I can't change the ringtone sound, how is it different on my two phones, then?

I had this happen to me with WhatsApp. If you have different ringtones set for messages on your iDevices, whatsapp uses those ringtones.

Try changing your messages tone (text tone in Settings > Sounds) to the one you want to hear for hangouts, delete and install the hangouts app and reinstall it.
You will notice hangouts will ring with that tone when you receive an alert.

You can now safely change the text tone back to what you prefer for messages
Do this on both your devices and you're all set.

Changing that ringtone changes my sms one, which is already fine.
The problem is Hangouts one, which I can't specifically set.

And I tried uninstalling/reinstalling it to no avail.

Sorry if I wasn't clear.
1. Delete hangouts
2. Change your SMS tone to the one you prefer for hangouts.
3. Install hangouts again.
4. Check if the ringtone for hangouts is the one you chose in step 2.
5. Now you can change the ringtone for SMS back to the one you had previously. But don't delete and install the Hangouts app if you don't want the ringtone for it to change.

I don't know, but did you try the directions at the top of the screenshot? It's been a while since I last used Hangouts and I don't remember any of its settings.

I did, hence why I came here.
And the directions at the top of the screenshot weren't pointing in the right direction (it's to turn sounds on or off). That's the first setting I checked

Let me know if my advice works. I'm curious myself too, as it may have changed thru the years.

I just had to delete and reinstalled Hangouts.
