Memory usage discrepancy

Formatted my phone and I am getting used memory as 1.4 GB out of the total 11.8 GB, but the items listed in the manage storage option add upto only 100 MB or so Then where is the rest memory being used? Pl help

It's storage space. What you see listed in the manage storage is not everything. It's hard to tell what's going on without seeing the phone. It could be messages, emails, Notes,music, cache, and even what's know as "other".
Are you saying you only have 100 mb of apps, music, messages, photos, and emails?
