why can't i backup to my new iphone 6

I am trying to set up my new iphone 6, on the choose backup screen its says at the bottom, no icloud backups are compatible with the version of IOS (8.1.2) on this phone, i don't know what to do next.

Are you attempting to restore from a previous backup? What version of iOS was on your last phone?

If the iCloud backup is from a newer iOS version, for example, one of the betas or iOS 8.3, then you will be unable to restore the device with that particular backup until AFTER you've updated the iOS version that's on your new iPhone.
