How can I figure out what is wrong with my iphone 6 plus?

We recently bought it off of eBay and it was broken and not working at all. So, recently we had also ordered parts and things and I sat down and worked on it and it looks, sounds, and feels brand new, however the screen only will light up to a black screen. No apple logo, no words, just light and sounds and vibrations. So, I broke it down and found out that the metal plate on the back of the screen had a wire that was broken, so it wouldn't connect to the mother board, so I ordered that part. What does the metal plate actually do?

I do not know, but someone over at iFixit may be able to tell you precisely what it does. I'm sure there's a tear down video of the iPhone 6 Plus somewhere on their website.

Most of the time a metal plate covering a connector either provide RF shielding OR are used to hold the connector in place.
