Welcome to iMore! If you had Find My iPhone on (it's on by default) you won't be able to simply choose a new Apple ID. You will have to log out of your old Apple ID first which requires your password. Use Apple's iForgot tool to recover your Apple ID and reset your password: https://iforgot.apple.com/appleid
