Why does checking for mail on my iPhone 6+ very slow?

checking for mail with iPhone 6+ is very slow.

I have tried deleting and re-installing gmail but still takes very long time to check for mail. My wife has the same phone and also uses gmail and her's works fine. We both use a home Wi-Fi. network.

on your phone - try Settings>> General>> Reset>> Reset network settings... you'll have to log in to previously used wifi hotspots that require password after...
