Why can't I see my iPhone 6 on my iTunes when I log into iTunes?

I have latest update to iTunes. WHen I am on my PC, I bring up iTunes. I plug in my iPhone 6 plus. It charges, but the little phone icon on the bar at the top does not display. I cannot sync. What am I doing wrong?

If a reboot of the PC doesn't work then I'd uninstall iTunes completely and then re-install it again and I'm sure the issue would be resolved. I used to run into this problem often when I sadly still used Windows-based computers.
