Nobody will know for sure until release, but I can't imagine them back tracking from the 5S and going back to locked devices.

Technical, it "can" work with Sprint, but Sprint "won't" allow it to. Sprint and Verizon use CDMA for voice and 3G data and do not activate 3G service on a device that is NOT in their whitelist. Thus, the Verizon iPhone is capable, but won't be allowed to connect to Sprint.
