why can't i get my iphone 5s to insert a calendar appointment?

I have been using the calendar app successfully until last week; then it stopped inserting appointments when I press 'add'

Try doing a hard reset of your device by holding down the power and home button at the same time till your phone screen goes dark. It will restart if not then hold down the power button till you see the  logo
