new 5S problems

i have just picked up a new 5S as my old one fell down the toilet :-(.
after i set it up and turned it on, i found i had no Contacts app andcould not send text messages.
when i set up find my IPHONE the phone shows up as a IPOD. no idea what i have done any help would be appreciated

Reboot the device... maybe restore the iOS...

did the update to ios 8.4 after the install and still ipod?

wrong software is loaded onto the phn I would check with your service provider to see if they can get it fixed

New as in never been used before or new as in newly purchased? If the former, take it back to the store you purchased it from and get it exchanged.
