gmail will not syncg

I used to hear my notification sound when I got an email.

Now, I don't. I have to open the mail and then it will "check for emails" and if I have some then I get the notification sound.

So, I only know if I get an email if I touch on the envelope icon and the bottom and the mail opens . I still get the sounds for the texts and phones.

Upgraded to 7 awhile ago but I don't remember if that coincided with this problem. The phone says I am completely updated. I can't find anything in settings that I have done wrong. Wi-Fi is on but this happens anywhere.

There's nothing wrong with your phone or email. Google did that. I have 4 gmail accounts. I get my notifications. Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts, Calendars>scroll down to "Fetch New Data"


Tap and toggle on "Push" at top and set gmail to fetch.


Scroll down and select the time interval you want. Mine is on 1 hour.


Go to settings>Notification Center>Mail>set how you want. Add an alert sound. Etc. Your alerts will still not be immediate, but you will get them. Mine come once per hour.

Thank you. It turned out that I had all the things right except the last fetch setting. I somehow changed it to manual. I tested it with an email to myself and it alerted exactly 15 min later.
