If you trade iPhones what happens to AppleCare +?

I have a gold iPhone 5s that I want to trade for a silver 5s. I have Apple care + for it. If I trade iPhones what happens to the Apple care +? Would the person I trade with still be able to use it or will they be denied service because it's under my name? Any light shed on this topic will be much appreciated.

I am almost positive they'll still be able to use it with no problems. But just to be sure, give Apple Customer Care a call

Apple Care + follows the phone...regardless of how many times it passes hands to a new owner, it remains with the device until the end of the warranty term.

You could also contact Apple, cancel the coverage and get a refund for the unused portion of the contract.
