Why is my 5c display dark or flickering?

5c display dark or flickering

My sons iPhone 5 lC display is either flickering or going really dark, we took it to the apple Genius Bar and they said it's the hardware and that they could replace the screen for ?99!!
Obviously the phone isn't worth that. If I followed the instructions to change the screen myself would it fix this problem?

If that's the only issue and if you do it right then yes, it should fix the problem.
