Why does my Apple 5c cell want a PASSCODE 4 digits?

apple 5c cell wants PASSCODE 4 digits.

I have never set a passcode and this passcode request comes after an ios Apple upgrade.

Sometimes after an update they ask you to create one. Maybe that's what's happening here. Other possibility is you did create one and forgot. Good luck
