Does Sprint / Verizon iPhone 5 come factory unlocked?

If I am not mistaken, I read that Verizon iPhone 5 comes unlocked from factory, but not sure since I never own a Verizon or Sprint iPhone

Can someone confirm it is the case?

Verizon's iPhone 5 should be unlocked. With Sprint it depends on the situation. You could purchased an unlocked iPhone if you paid full price for it upfront. Even if it's locked, you should be able to contact Sprint and have them unlock it if the agreement it was purchased under has been satisfied.
What's the situation?

It doesn't say that you must have an account but it does state that any associated account has to be in good standing. Give Sprint Customer Care a call.

Just found out that it is locked. Is unlocking Sprint different from other carriers (AT&T)? With AT&T, after unlock, just restore with iTunes and it should be OK.
