iphone 5 mail

hi, just upgraded to iphone 5 and set up email. it say I have 1400 emails but can only delete 1 at a time. is there a way of removing the backlog of messages? I had no problems on my iphone 4 or my computers email account. thanks

Log into main email service it resides and mark all read.

Mailbox is only for Gmail accounts. So if they have anything other than Gmail, this option is a no-go.
