Default Has anyone ever experience a home button failure on the 5?

just curious. if so, will apple replace the phone under warranty (not Apple Care+)? Apple warranty is one year and 5 is not a year old.

    Thanks.

Yes, I'm sure someone besides you has experienced home button failure.

Yes, it is covered under the initial 1 year Apple Care warranty as long as the phone doesn't have signs of damage that may have caused the failure...if damage is present, you would need the Apple Care + warranty and would need to use one of your allotted replacements.

I have also experienced a couple of misses when using my home button in the last couple of months

Is this the start of a faulty button?

By the way my iPhone 5 is only three months old and I use assistive touch most of the time

The following information can be found at http://www.apple.com/legal/sales-sup...lecareplus.pdf

If during the Plan Term, you submit a valid claim by notifying Apple that (i) a defect in materials and
workmanship has arisen in the Covered iPhone or, (ii) the capacity of the Covered iPhone’s battery to
hold an electrical charge has depleted fifty (50%) percent or more from its original specifications, Apple
will either (a) repair the defect at no charge, using new or refurbished parts that are equivalent to new in
performance and reliability, or (b) exchange the Covered iPhone with a replacement product that is new
or equivalent to new in performance and reliability, and is at least functionally equivalent to the original
    product.

Apple stores are now moving strictly in the direction of in store repairs depending on the issue, including screen repairs...but if the phone is replaced with another phone, there is a 99% chance it will be refurbished, but you'll only know that going into it, the phone itself will look and function identical to a fresh out of the box phone.

warranty covers manufacturer defects. as long as phone isn't cracked. broken, or water damaged. apple care (not plus) will take care of that. make a G bar appt.

You can't. They look identical, perform identical, and for all intents and purposes, the "refurbished" models ARE brand new, they just might have components in them that were functionally and cosmetically perfect from another phone. You would not be able to tell a difference between a brand new iPhone and a refurbished iPhone.

Really, the only way to really KNOW is to have a sealed Apple iPhone box that you unwrap the plastic on...if you do that, you have a new one.

That used to work, not anymore.

There are some theories that you can check the cellular usage, but that doesn't have a consistent valid verification.

Also, i think this was one of the best quotes I've ever read about them, made by an Apple employee who focused on nothing but returns and exchanges at several Apple stores...

Apple doesn't do refurbished phones. They make 100% certified remanufactured phones. They rebuild the phones from scratch using brand new parts of expendables such as batteries, displays, enclosures. They might reuse things that don't wear out such as antennas or internal non-degradable hardware if they deem them to be 100% usable. In many ways, the remanufactured iphones are better than those coming off the assembly lines because they are built by hand using known good parts.

    Yeah I like that.

My refurb was perfect, well it still is. Also I love how my model number is ND122LL/A, reminds me of my MAC

Doesn't matter really. The refurb carries the same warrantee and you brought them a used broken phone. I guess you cant really complain that they give a used working phone in its place.

Hey... imagine if car dealerships gave you a new car when there is a warrantee covered issue with the radio

I stared using Assistive Touch months ago on my 4S just to avoid using my home button.
I love it but many feel it's annoying.
