iTunes and iPhone 5 issue

Hey guys and gals. I recently went to do a restore on my iPhone 5. iTunes froze on me at least a dozen times. Now I lost about 100 pictures and had to reinstall some of my apps.

This was with iTunes 10 and the newly released iTunes 11.
My computer is a dell (for now!)

Any ideas?
