    Thanks. My sentiments exactly.

My nine year old girl isn't interested in programing, buts she's perfectly capable of Skyping and emailing with her grandparents. She also does a decent job of doing web searches when she needs to find some info for a school assignment. If she didn't have her own devices, I would either have to let her use mine or take her to the public library. She gets her homework assignments off of Blackboard website. She doesn't have a phone yet but that's because she doesn't stay at home alone yet. She'll need a phone when that happens because we don't have a landline.

And my 5 year old daughter lives playing math and reading educational games on my iPad so I know she'll get a lot of use with her own iPad mini. And there are lots of good kids books for the iPad that read the story to them. I read to her as well, of course, but it is convenient when you don't feel like Suess for the 100th time. She'll obviously have more restrictions than her older sister.

Anyway, they are MY kids and I'll raise them as I see fit.

I have no problem with a ten year old having an iPhone, but if you need to block that kind of content they aren't ready for one.

I just got my 11 year old son an iPhone 4 as an early christmas present. He knows how to use an iPod and an iPad so I saw nothing wrong with giving him an iPhone. I have set up restrictions and he knows that I can look at his phone at anytime and see what he has been doing on it. I have also explained to him that he needs to make sure that he only uses phone and text messages away from home, but while at home and on wifi he use everything else. I want to make sure that we don't go over the data limit on the phone. The phone also stays in an Otterbox defender at all times. My 16 year daughter also has an iPhone with the same rules concerning data. I gave it to them, I can take it away at anytime if I feel as though they are not using it appropriately or for bad behavior.

iMore is a tech blog with an Apple focus, NOT a parenting blog. If you have something constructive (about the tech issue in this thread) to add to the conversation, then post, otherwise keep your opinions about MY parenting to yourself.

Do a search for "browser parental controls" in the App Store comes up with lots of choices. Read the descriptions carefully because some of them have a subscription fee. The first one that comes up in my search is from AVG and that's definitely a reputable firm on the desktop at least. I don't know what their iOS development experience is.
