I can't seem to catch a brake
So I finally got my iPhone 5 delivered this afternoon, so I try to activate it and the sim card is not recognized, I look at the screen and it has a scratch and the back on the bottom corner a ding, I called Verizon and after an hour + they couldn't fix it, now they have to ship a new sim card and I can't use the phone until then, I told him about the scratch, if I want it replaced I have to wait until October 12 and I also have to pay for it up front then once I send the other one back they will reimburse me, what are the odds that a verizon store would have one tomorrow so I can change it? I highly doubt it but I'm still going to call, I just can't believe that after waiting for a year, yes a year since I didn't want to upgrade to the 4s and staying up until 3am so I didn't have to wait 1 or 2 more months I still get screwed up.... just about 3 weeks ago I went to the apple store and got a new macbook pro, I was followed to my house and once I parked a guy came around broke my car window and stole it, yes, I was followed from the apple store all the way to my house about 40 mins away! I just can't catch a break... and what does my husband do? laughs at me and tells me that I should have waited until the second batch because they are always faulty at first blah blah blah... thanks husband for the moral support...
Any way, I had to rant.... - 09-21-2012, 11:00 PM #2

That really sucks. Here's something to let you know that bad things just don't happen to you. I had a similar terrible experience when I got my IPhone 4. My phone wasn't eligible for an upgrade so I decided to buy one from Craigslist. So I talked to the guy and set everything up. And I met him and the i4 was in its box with the plastic wrap still intact so I didn't have any worries. I paid the guy the 500 dollars for the 32gb phone and he was on his way as was I. So hen I got to the point of activating it the phone activated on another number other than my own and I figured it was because it wasn't my upgrade so I had to get the owner back on the phone to authorize it. In the mean time the new i4 rings and I answer and it was the girlfriend of the person who the phone belonged to. Yup I def. bought a stolen phone. But the guy had stolen it from the mail room at an apartment complex that's why it was still in the plastic. The police wouldn't do anything for me and then when I told my grandpa about it he said "why didn't you just use one of our upgrades from another line on our share plan " I was so mad at him at that moment but why can you do, I was more mad at myself. So I ended up going and using an upgrade and essentially paying 800 for a i4 on contract. So there's my terrible experience hopefully it will help you not to feel so bad.

thank you for your responses, at least there is someone else out there with more heart, it almost makes me feel like it makes him happy, he is jealous that he can't get one yet I guess...
Zachslusser that is truly horrible, thank you for sharing your story, I'm definitely not alone I know, it happens to many of us, I just feel like every time I'm happy about something (material) a grey cloud comes to rain on my parade.... I will get over it, it just makes me mad and upset. - 09-21-2012, 11:31 PM #6
This might help.
go to an apple store and they'll swap out your defective iphone on the spot. they always keep spares for this. my 4S last year was flawed. so was my second one. in 2 days I got two phones
third time was a charm but no hassle at the apple store.
They made sure I got a working phone.
carrier stores have crappy customer service.
Apple has excellent customer service.
Good luck! - 09-21-2012, 11:33 PM #7

i was at Apple store today, stopped in to buy Applecare+, which they fist told me I couldn't do, then escorted me in front of the short line they had, they had ATT iphones in every size. not sure your carrier. They also were very accommodating.

Apple usually keeps extra in the back that they don't sell, for replacements. My sister had to get hers replaced and she did it in NYC Apple store and they even kept extra in the back for situations like this.

Wait a sec. So you knew you were actually followed all the way home 40 miles away and you left your stuff in the car when you got home and also didn't call the police or at least scope things out??

Of course I didn't know I was being followed and did call the police when it happened, we (police and I) figured this out because they knew exactly where I had put the computer in my car, that was the window they broke once I parked the car, it was in a matter of seconds that it happened. The worse thing is that when I was at the store the sales girl and I were talking about that kind of thing happening in Miami, but you always think to your self that it won't happen to you until it does... just be careful people specially in large populated places and if you are a girl, that day I was supposed to go with my husband but we had an argument and he stayed home, then it happened and he felt like ****.
