I did notice the spot on the scenes with the sun in the background. Looks like reflection from one of the multiple lens on the camera.

Took this one in a low light setting in the church yesterday. The iPhone 5 does a much better job in low light settings than my 4S did.

Along with the purple flare, look at that green dot in the sunset photo. I took lots of pictures recently and found that green dot is constantly ruining the shots.

That would happen when pointed at direct sunlight dpreview said the lens flare of a reflection inside the camera lens.
