I lost power during a software update

And now it won't turn on past the apple logo. When I connect it to iTunes it often isn't showing up and is not showing up in my device manager on my pc. The few times iTunes does recognize it it says that it need an update and restore. I try to do that and it downloads the 1.47gb update and then times out and I get an error message. Can someone help me please

What error message do you get exactly?

You may need to put it into recovery mode and then connect it to iTunes. It should then restore it for you.

Thanks. I've done this and clicked on update and restore. The download begins and when it's about 95% done it fails and I loose the download and have to start again. I've done that about 5 times and out used me data limits. I tried it yesterday and the same thing happens.
