I have a lot of email folders and subfolders and it's a pain to scroll down to a specific subfolder. How do I change the default so that my email folders start collapsed rather than all being open?

I don't know. When I initiate the native mail app on my iPhone 5 and then select Gmail, for example, I see a listing of all my folders, but they are not "open". If you're seeking a way to not see the listing of your folders, I don't know of a way to do that.

Same here on my 4S. I have gmail and iCloud and when I launch my native email app it opens to my default email inbox only. When I click on gmail it then opens to all my folders and vice versa with iCloud. Once I close the app and reopen it, It checks my default email and starts over again.

No other way as 'D indicted that I know if to do anything different.
